Hospitality Security Update

Logging onto the internet with any hospitality computers can be dangerous.

hotel hackingIn the last week we have seen the US Secret Service issue a warning to hospitality security that the computers they provide for guests run the risk of being compromised with malware.

It follows on the back of arrests against those suspected of corrupting computers in hotels between Dallas and Forth Worth, Texas.

This form of hacking is wipe spread in both the US and Europe where hospitality security & internet access are provided.

In this particular case in the US the criminals booked into the hotel using stolen credit cards. They then proceeded to load malware onto the hospitality computers in the business centres.

The hackers used keylogger malware to capture the key strokes of hotel guests that used the business center computers. They subsequently sent the information via email to the malicious actors’ email accounts.

The hackers are thought to have seized bank login details and personally identifiable information.

This very simple form of hacking can be difficult to trace. The best way to ensure it doesn’t happen is by user awareness.
