Challenges

The average time to identify a malicious attack sits at 191 days, with a further 66 days to contain it once found. That gap is what pushed Abtran to act. The business wanted to improve its internal data handling and gain more network visibility without slowing down its operations, with the primary goal of making sure customer information was handled securely by everyone in the organisation.

Expansion of Abtran's digital services meant cybersecurity needed sharper focus, and Abtran also needed to demonstrate compliance with GDPR, PCI and ISO27001.

Outcome

Smarttech247 implemented an on-premise IBM QRadar SIEM alongside IBM Watson for Cybersecurity, giving Abtran's team the ability to predict, identify, understand and eliminate threats rather than simply react to them. Abtran became the first company globally to run IBM Watson as part of a managed security service package.

Partnership in Practise

Abtran needed an IT security partner that could keep pace with a fast-changing threat landscape, one they didn't have the internal capacity to track alone. Kabir Vedera, Chief Architect at Abtran, describes IT security as fundamental to every technology solution the business delivers, both for protecting client and company information and for meeting compliance obligations.

"Having an IT security partner helps us keep up to date with what's happening in the market. We don't have the capacity anymore because the landscape is changing so much that we require a third party to help us protect and advise us as changes happen in the market, and to be there for 24/7 security in that scenario."
